Water testing near gas-drilling sites first of five water-quality webinars

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Water quality and water conservation will be the focus of five Web-based seminars produced by Penn State Cooperative Extension this spring. Topics will include water testing, septic systems, managing ponds and lakes, and safe drinking water.

Dow Jones (1/15) reports, “On natural gas, Chu said the fuel could potentially crowd out investment in alternative energies because of recent big discoveries of gas in shale, hard rock formations, in the U.S Gas "probably" would retard development of alternatives if the fuel is "really super-cheap," he said, adding that gas could be accessed from shale regions safely.

It's worth noting that there are a number of state elected officials that are undecided when it comes to Hydrofracking.

Then, there are others who are taking a very hard stance, and even trying to pass legislation that would hold landowners who have signed leases responsible for accidents caused by gas companies that happen on their property (Barbara Lifton, D-Ithaca).

The point is that NOW is the time to have your voice be heard.

EQT Production Co., the natural gas development arm of EQT Corp., headquartered in Pittsburgh, has announced its intentions to expand its footprint in the Marcellus Shale formation into Northeast Pennsylvania and Southern New York State.

To do that, EQT is partnering with Endless Mountain Energy LLC, of Olyphant, Pa., an exploration and production company operating in that part of the shale.
