THE FAIRS:

Our Coalition has secured a booth at both the Otsego and Chenango County Fairs.  We will be posting our coalition maps at these booths, assisting landowners to sign up with our coalition and distributing factual information on the safe process of natural gas exploration. 

Great News For Our Coalition Oxford Coalition to Merge With Us!
Oxford Coalition Is Merging With The CNY Landowner’s Coalition In what promises to be a win-win for both coalitions, the Oxford Coalition, which has been under the leadership of Bryant LaTourette, is merging with our coalition.  Serious discussions for this merger began about 7 weeks ago and after a number of very positive conversations, both sides have agreed that we can accomplish more for our common cause if we work as one.

Because of your hard work calling, emailing and faxing our state senators, you are successfully holding off the vote on a moratorium.  If you remember, the state senate was supposed to vote on these bills nearly two weeks ago.  However, there has been such an overwhelming response from landowners like you, our state legislators had to take notice.  There is no vote planned for these bills today or Monday and they have asked that we hold off on the phone calls, emails and faxes for now.  Our diligence combined with the efforts of fellow NY coalitions, has made a huge difference.  Great Work!

103 callers registered with CNY that they called the Senators on the Encon committee to try to defeat the moratorium bill sponsored by Senator Thompson.  We do not yet know the results of the Encon meeting today.  If this bill is defeated in committee, it is largely due to the special action taken by our committee members.

SNEAKY “ANTI-GAS” BILL MUST BE STOPPED

OPPOSITION’S ATTEMPT TO SNEAK A BILL THROUGH: NYS Senator Antoine Thompson has just introduced a bill to the NYS Encon Committee, which he chairs, that would ban any hydraulic fracturing activity in NYS for one year – which is certain to be followed up by subsequent moratoriums in future years. THIS BILL HAS THE SAME LONG-TERM AGENDA AS THE OTHERS AND IS NOT A COMPROMISE!!! If this passes, we can forget about leasing for years to come and we can be certain that any gas company who might be waiting for the DEC to release the SGEIS will give up & head elsewhere.

We know that your time is very important so we would not want to ask too much of you. However, this Wednesday brings a critical event that desperately needs your full support. The Joint Landowner's Coalition of New York is hosting a rally in Albany on Wednesday, June 9th. Buses will be leaving from various locations throughout the Southerntier and upstate NY. If we do not have a tremendous showing of support for this rally, this very well may be the end of our gas drilling prospects for many years to come.
